How Website Design Works

How the brainstorming stage works:

The first thing you need for a website is a really good idea, because there are a lot of websites out there and yours needs to stand out. If you're a little short in the idea department, or you have an idea but it needs refining, that's where I come in. I currently offer free brainstorming where, after receiving your initial input, I come up with unique and fully fleshed-out website ideas that fit your needs. (Usually 5 ideas.) Although extensively detailed, these brainstorming ideas are merely starting points to boost your imagination. I then present those ideas to you in a Google document with an easy-to-read format. You can see an example of the document below for a hypothetical photographer:

You can also take a closer look at the actual document itself by clicking here.

Occasionally, I also add bonus content such as the following example, showing 30 blog ideas (title + first paragraph) for the hypothetical photographer to use on their blog page:

After I send you the google document, it's your job to either

1) choose your favorite idea,

2) choose your top two favorite ideas,

3) or give me feedback about a new idea.

Then I'll either

1) finalize your favorite idea,

2) combine the best parts of your two favorite ideas,

2) or expand on your new idea.

Once a single idea has been finalized via any of these three methods, I'll send it to you along with your quote.

If you don't need any help brainstorming, just let me know and we can skip that stage— and I'll need you to provide me with a clear outline of the website that you need.

How Your Quote Works:

Your quote will not only include my time spent designing the website itself, but also all the copywriting (or whatever copy you delegate to me), as well as the back-end email system setup, search engine optimization (SEO), and data organization. For the most part, time spent in communication with you regarding your vision for the project is free of charge.

Keep in mind that your quote is at most an educated guess, as there are an immense number of variables that can affect how long it takes to complete an image compositing project— not to mention changes/additions/revisions you choose to make along the way.

Make sure to check out my Policies page and FAQs page for more information.

How the future of your site will work:

After your website is published, you'll easily be able to add content to it yourself from your Wix Dashboard using Wix's Dynamic Pages. If you need help understanding how these work, I'm here for you.

I'll create your site using Wix. As an SEO expert, I will ensure your site is discoverable while also taking advantage of Wix's beautiful design capabilities and data organization systems, as well as their newly released Studio Hub.

When our contract is finished, I'll still be in touch as your lifelong tech support. Just shoot me a text or give me a call and in most cases, I can fix whatever issue you’re facing with your website in short order. If the fix is something I can do in 15 minutes or less, I won’t charge you.

How payment works:

You'll pay for 2-4 hours at a time (in advance) via an invoice I email to you— that way if you decide to cancel the project at any point I haven’t wasted my time.

You get to choose between paying the full amount of the quote, or a minimum of 2 hours at a time (or 3, 4, 5 at a time, etc.) based on your preference.

Another benefit of this is that if for some reason you ran into a financial issue, we could just put the project on hold until you’re able to afford another set of hours. I also offer Affirm as one of my checkout options, which means you can easily set up a payment plan at the checkout by following these instructions.

When I send the invoice, it will come from I'll notify you when I send it so make sure to check spam if you don't see it.

Time for some expectation setting.

A project like this is a back-and-forth sort of thing. I always follow my client's instructions as precisely as possible, but it's still uncommon for the first version of the site to be exactly what you envisioned. Maybe someday we will be able to neurally link our brains together and you can imprint your exact vision on my mind, but until then there will likely be several iterations. This type of project also requires lots of back-and-forth communication between us, especially regarding any dynamic data on your site. One way to vastly speed up the process is to provide me with example websites— visuals I can see to help convey your ideas. After all, they are worth a thousand words.

Sometimes a website will be completed or nearing completion in 2-6 weeks, and sometimes it's done in a few days. This is primarily due to:

1) the complexity of your project,

2) any modifications you wish to make during the process,

3) and the speed at which you're able to provide feedback.

As large as this range is, it's the most precise timeline I can provide without knowing the details of your project and how promptly you will provide your valuable feedback.
